I’m an avid Facebook Marketplace buyer. I was looking for a piece, a narrow chest of drawers to convert to a sink. What irks me about a lot of the posts is that they don’t come with measurements and this one did – hallelujuah! Perfect. I drive to what feels like the ends of the earth in 8am morning traffic before work. I get there and the piece is too small. How the hell is it too small, damn it? Since I drove and hour there, I bought it anyways. I will find a space for it, I mean I like it to keep. I go back into the traffic and I head to work, once home the piece is unloaded to the back where I tend to all my wood projects to sand and prep. Then….I forget it’s there for weeeeeks. This poor wood thing is getting wet and in summer humidity, although not in direct sun, getting completely ruined. I don’t have a photo of it when I bought it, in its glory. Here she is now, in her worst.

The top veneer had separated and I had to use my iron to heat the glue to remove the stubborn glued areas. In peeling this, I ripped off a chunk of the corner. The varnish all over was peeling like dead skin. The drawers seemed to have survived pretty well and I loved the detail of it. I wanted to keep the wood look so I used my Orange Stripper, now I’m a master of this substance! I bought this 2 part wood foamy thing and shaped the curvy missing chunk.
Stripped back, the wood color is NOT CUTE. The decorative detail is not wood, the top of the drawer is blonde like pine. This thing was a pain in my ass and was not my intention to spend time or money on it. However since it was my fault leaving it outside it was on my conscious to repair it and took the challenge.

Plan: Prime. Sand. Flat paint. Glaze detailed as brush strokes to give a wood grain look (all the trend now with furniture flippers), in a lighter color than the drawers so it’s contrasting.
Here she is in all her glory, all 90% of it……..before I can say 100%, should I add another layer of glaze to make the body a little darker?

Here she is in all her glory, all 90% of it (sorry for the random ball in the shot )……..before I can say 100%, should I add another layer of glaze to make the body a little darker?
Then I’ll polycrylic for protection. The original drawer pulls were treated with Rub and Buff (such a funny name, it’s exactly what you do but maybe my mind is always in the gutter) in color Spanish Copper.
As soon a she’s 100% I’ll whisk her to Georgia so I don’t have to look at her for a while, lol. Next project!
